Nathan Kirkpatrick

Ph.D. Candidate, Biomedical Engineering, Georgia Tech & Emory University (2016-present)

B.S.E. Biomedical Engineering, Arizona State University (2016) B.A. English Literature, Arizona State University (2011)

Nathan is a Ph.D. candidate in Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Tech & Emory, co-advised by Dr. Rob Butera and Dr. Chang. He uses electricity to better understand how our brains and bodies communicate. Specifically, he temporarily interrupts the ability for peripheral nerves to transmit signals, and studies how adaptation takes place to overcome these new limitations. By combining techniques from neuro-engineering, electrical engineering, machine learning, and 3D x-ray videography, Nathan seeks to develop new tools to treat neurological and musculoskeletal conditions.

As a new father, Nathan spends his less-than-abundant free time sleeping.
